  • Slightly off topic, but If you have the time to travel; may I suggest looking into Interrail if you’re not already aware of it. An interrail pass would be the European equivalent to an american road trip imo.

One train ticket helped me cover places like Portugal, Spain, and Italy, all the way through to Switzerland and onto Hungary, Poland etc and back home all over the course of two weeks.

I was backpacking solo, so just looked up hostels in whatever city i ended up in on the day. But you could just as easily use it to plan a family itinerary. The actual ticket lasts a lot longer than a fortnight too; I’m just a slave to the machine and couldn’t get more time off.

  • Unhappy with your favourite football teams results? Why not play for the team yourself?

The reality is, if you want to work in positions capable of making change, it is an incredibly difficult and expensive uphill struggle to get there; any position of power is a position people are normally groomed for from a young age.

Anyone can play football, but playing at your local field isn’t going to change a champions league final, just like being elected as an independent would at most, prevent the majority from becoming a super majority.

So as much as the gentry may want us to think it’s an open game, most politicians come from a rather specific private schooled background. Sure you get a few that break the mold; and just because someone is private schooled, doesn’t mean they won’t be socially minded. I’m just pointing to the fact that it’s silly to insist any laymen can just be elected into office and make a difference; you need significant resources (especially in America where everything is commercialisation dialled up to the max) or you need to compromise and toe the line with one of the existing parties.

Just look at NYC mayoral candidates; The democrats are losing their mind and would rather the republicans take the position than their prime candidate; simply because he’s not someone from their very specific definition of an appropriate background for a candidate.

That’s not even at the federal level. That’s just a city mayor… Either you play their game, or you’re not allowed to kick the ball.

  • It specifies all of what they said in the article OP linked.

Midway through it mentions he migrated to the states in 1991 (which was ~34 years ago), and the final paragraph of the article is:

Noviello was charged with trafficking oxycodone and other illegal drugs, as well as racketeering and using a two-way communication device to facilitate criminal activity. He pleaded guilty to all charges in September 2023 after withdrawing an earlier plea of not guilty. In February of this year, a judge granted Noviello’s request to convert the remainder of his two-year supervised community control sentence to probation

Tbf, all of these things are on menus outside of north America (assuming that’s what NA means ofc) including the cats and dogs.

Not for the fainthearted; but googling china dog festival should put any discussion otherwise to rest (TW: dead dogs).

Interestingly enough; the areas where you see dog and cat consumption aren’t just found in areas of complete poverty. The meat tends to be consumed either as a necessity (as you alluded to) or a delicacy; it’s never really a standard dish.

The more I think about it though; the less I’m surprised that billionaires would eat our pets and consider it a delicacy.

  • Religion has historically provided a safe haven to the sick and twisted among society, where they’re allowed to act with impunity due to their perceived status.

That’s not directly due to the religion; but rather due to the societal pedestal being devout seems to put people on; “a holy person could never do that to a child” etc…

The reality is, other areas that benefit from this sort of status too find themselves riddled with bad actors… Just look through charity organisations and I can guarantee you’ll be combing over a sea of sociopaths buying themselves good credit with public opinion rather than people looking to make a difference because they want to (not to say these people don’t exist; they just don’t end up running the show normally)

  • It’s dumb to search anything when they’re responding to a direct link to the GitHub page. They had no issues finding it; they were just pointing out the original comment in the picture is no longer there, with no marker meaning there’s no “comment deleted” marker on the thread.

I highly doubt they meant all traces of the comment have been wiped from the internet. That would be silly; given we’re looking at a screenshot of it on the internet.

    Absolutely. You reminded me of an old hitchhikers guide quote;

It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it… anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
