why the fuck would a facist regime
Citation needed.
follow reza pahlavi and not the pervy mullahs.
The son of the Shah? That’s… uh… a tenuous proposition, to say the least.
She’s a true believer in the stuff Trump says to stir up shit.
Okay that HRW link got me. I guess that explains Ukraine.
now
Where have you been these last 25 years?
All of them have consolidated power and forced out opposition groups at gunpoint. MBS straight up dismembered several of his rivals with bone saws, ffs.
That’s authoritarianism, not necessarily fascism. Fascism is a subset of rightwing authoritarianism characterized by, among other things, the authoritarian leader enacting escalating persecution of an increasing number of people to back up their fascist rhetoric.
Hell, if I was going to point to anyone as a clear front-runner in fascist takeover, I’d be more inclined to point to Vladimir Putin of Russia.
That’s fair, but I wouldn’t describe Putin as fully fascist. He’s more of a proto-fascist rightwing authoritarian, though his conduct in Ukraine is certainly cutting it close. What make me hesitant to call him a fascist is that, after he completed his takeover, he didn’t make up crises and go after minorities to keep power like the original fascists. Compare with Trump’s treatment of immigrants and you’ll see what I mean. I’d have no problem saying rhat Trump is this generation’s Hitler, while for example Putin doesn’t really fit.
Can liberals stop celebrating human rights abuses for one fucking second?
Normally one would hope that this would force him to make concessions to the public or otherwise shore up his political capital, but given that Israel can do no right I expect this to go horribly for Iranians.
Iran (a country of 90 million people) might go the way of Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, i.e., total fucking chaos for at least a decade if not more. If you thought Daesh was bad, just you fucking wait.
Small correction: Afghanistan wasn’t “total chaos;” it was an insurgency against US occupation and after the US left the Taliban immediately took power. If we use this as our model for a post-war Iran (since it doesn’t have the kind of sectarian tensions that created the Syrian and Iraqi civil wars) we’d expect more a better armed Taliban than ISIS.
Okay I’ll be honest: If this does turn out to be another Iraq and Trump isn’t deposed immediately, I’ll lose all faith in Americans’ ability to fix this mess.
The last US president not bought and paid for by Israel was Reagan.
Americans, if you follow Trump into Iran you’ll officially confirm that you do, indeed, deserve fascism.
I think they mean insurgency as in resistance in occupied areas.
You mean 1973? That was retaking territory they had lost in 1967. By 1973 Israel’s existence was a fait accompli and they really weren’t going anywhere. The war crimes bit is true, however, though it’s a small comfort that the Oil Crisis precipitated the economic crisis that got Reagan elected.
I do wish everyone involved a very nice visit to the Hague, but more than that if Westerners can’t stop their leaders from stanning for genocide, then it becomes very tempting to choose the fascists who will sabotage the Zionist project by running their countries to the ground. I’m a firm believer that people who support genocide don’t deserve anything but fascism.
So if they didn’t oppose US interests the US wouldn’t hate them? I wonder how that works.
Western Christians haven’t even pretended to act like Jesus for centuries. It’s MAGA all the way down, bud.
What kind of pushback did they get from Obama?
